You can affect change
During the 30 year history of the Adoptive Families Association of BC, we’ve seen firsthand the evolution of adoption services in our province and the emergence of the biggest barrier to finding families for these children: public unawareness and misconceptions. Most people simply don’t know the number of children without families in BC and abroad.
Where Are Your Donation Dollars Going?
Your support will help us in three program areas that we feel need the most attention:
The Adoption Education Program
AFABC provides education and support services necessary to build strong adoptive families at all stages of adoption. From start to finish, our staff ensures the best education and resources are available through:
- Workshops
- Our 1-877-ADOPT-07 line
- One-on-one consultation with our regional coordinators
To find out more about our individual workshops, see the Support and Events section of our website.
Intercountry Adoption Support Program
Many families adopt children from abroad. These families often contend with the challenge of bridging the cultural gap and creating mutual trust with children, who have often come from difficult situations. Our intercountry support programs seek to create connections by:
-
Providing education workshops
-
Encouraging peer support networks for families
-
Providing mentoring workshops to connect children with others of their heritage
