Adoption Support

Our Provincial Support Network
Our Provincial Support Network is a province wide team of Adoption Support Coordinators who deliver our support programs for prospective and adoptive families. These programs include one-to-one phone or in-person support, parenting education and learning opportunities, family socials, the promotion of BC's Waiting Children program, and support to waiting parents.
Adoption Support Coordinators also oversee our Family-to-Family Support Services, provided by peer support volunteers across BC. We believe in peer support that empowers families to understand and resolve their own challenges. Our Family-to-Family Support Programs are: AFABC Support Groups, One-to-One Parent Support, and Community Resource Volunteers who provide our services in communities like yours.
Adoptive parents who are interested in volunteering for Family-to-Family Services are welcome. Please contact the Adoption Support Coordinator in your region, the provincial Team Manager, or the Education and Cross-Cultural Coordinator for more information and/or to apply.

Our Intercountry Adoption Support Services
Our Intercountry Adoption Services are provided by the Education and Cross-Cultural Coordinator and peer volunteers to prospective and adoptive parents who are considering or have adopted from overseas. Our Intercountry Adoption Support Services include: One-to-one phone or in-person support, and answering general inquiries about inter-country adoption such as country options. Our services also offer Learning Opportunities tailored to issues families face before they adopt internationally and after their children are home.
Our Intercountry Education and Support Coordinator also oversees our peer based Family-to-Family Support Services connecting intercountry adoptive families with trained peer volunteers who have similar experiences. These services include One-to-One Parent peer support and referrals to community Support Groups.
AFABC is not an adoption agency, but we work in partnership with BC's Licensed Adoption Agencies and other community groups and organizations to provide families adopting internationally with the very best education and support.
